Hummer Motor Mount Field Fix

Well it is a well know thing, that under situations of high torque the H1 / Humvee left hand motor mount is prone to braking. This in turn allows the motor to rise and the fan to take out the upper part of the shroud. I have had the belts wear a pin hole in the upper radiator hose also. So the temporary fix is what I will be covering in this blog entry.
I use a piece of heavy duty chain 48″ long with 1 1/2″ links, a 3/8ths inch diameter bolt 31/2″ long with two wide area washers and a selflocking nut.

Take the chain and route it through the upper motor mount support structure (box at motor) crossing over on the lowerside. (side nearest the driveshaft) pass the two ends through the round holes on the front and back of the frame side of the mount. Take the bolt with one washer under the head put it through a link on each end of the chain install the second washer and self locking nut. I like to have a small gap between the to links chosen so it pulls the chain tight as you tighten the nut onto the bolt.
While I recomend this as a preventive measure to be placed on a truck before the mount brakes, I do not recomend it as a permanent fix. It will get you through some extreme wheelen with no worries. I hope this helps you to enjoy your truck even more.
