Can I use any other tranny in Toyota 4x4 Im looking for a Transmission for a 1990 Toyota 4x4 Pickup with a 22R Fuel injected engine but, Im haveing problems. This truck has the 5 speed tranny that has both... A couple of simple diagnostic tools that might help, and they're small and cheap enough that you can just toss them in the glovebox so you can test next time it has the problem, wherever you are. 1. Starting fluid. If you spray starting fluid into the air intake then start it, does it run for a couple of seconds and then die? If so, it's a fuel problem (most likely the fuel pump, the one on my '95 S-10 Blazer failed right around 100K). 2. Extra spark plug. Pull one wire off and connect it to your extra spark plug. Hold the insulated boot so that the metal threads are touching the metal engine block and have a helper crank the engine. You should see a spark. If you don't, it's an ignition problem. I have had bad distributors cause the random on-off behavior you describe. -- spuddemon -at- thundermaker.net The above may not (yet) represent the opinions of my employer.
